Opening Event AQUA V: Nature and Destruction
On September 29, 2024, we proudly present our new art selection at the AQUALEX Concept Store. This selection will be inaugurated with an opening event on Sunday, September 29, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The collection highlights not only the vital and colorful beauty of nature but also its darker, destructive side that is inseparably linked to life.

About AQUA V
When artists depict nature, they often show it in all its glory—vital, colorful, and brimming with energy. Think of the cave paintings of Lascaux, the flower paintings of Georgia O'Keeffe, or Monet's water lilies. However, this same creative force of nature also has a dark, destructive side that is inevitably connected to life. The sight of this darker side—death, decay, disfigurement—instinctively repels us, yet we are equally drawn to it, as illustrated by Hannelore Vandenbussche's film clip of the cliff divers at La Quebrada. It is beyond doubt that more highly trained divers can be seen at the Olympic Games. But the fact that these cliff divers plunge from dizzying heights into a wild sea and a narrow, shallow bay surrounded by sharp rock walls adds an extra dimension to their act, one that can only be explained by our fascination with (self)destruction.
Fascination, however, is not the only positive emotion we experience when confronted with images of destruction, vulnerability, and decay. We are also capable of finding aesthetic pleasure in them. And especially when artists like Kris Martin, Bram Coppens, and Marco De Sanctis, among others in this exhibition, open our eyes to these aspects and enrich our perception of them.
