AQUALEX x Van Den Weghe

On 15 March 2024, the AQUALEX Concept Store officially opened its doors to the Van Den Weghe collection, curated by Tanguy Van Quickenborne.

Van Quickenborne is owner of Justastone Group and CEO of Van Den Weghe, an international marble and natural stone company that works closely with architects, designers and artists from all over the world.

The Van Den Weghe collection cannot be captured under one denominator. Nevertheless, the preference for young up-and-coming talents, for non-commercial works that arouse disquiet and confusion rather than pleasure, and for conceptual works in which the artist places familiar objects in a different context, thus challenging their meaning, stands out.

Triggered by themes such as water, sustainability and proximity to the sea, the selection of works includes, with Isaac Brest, Germain Hamel and Peter Sutherland, three artists linked to the now-defunct Still House Group. That is a clan of young artists who shared a studio space in New York and exhibited at Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens in Deurle in 2014/15. Isaac Brest was one of the co-founders of the group; Germain Hamel and Peter Sutherland exhibited in their studio space. The latter, Peter Sutherland, welcomes you to the AQUALEX Concept Store with Putting out Fires, a life-size pyramidal installation of colourful drinking cans borrowed from anarchist skate culture. Furthermore, you can admire works by Kris Martin, Grayson Revoir, Ron Gorchov, Richard Nonas, Inès van den Kieboom, Joris Van de Moortel and many others.
