Randstad, combining human resources, equality and ecology

It's a story whose roots go back to 1960, when the two friends who founded this temporary employment agency in the Netherlands could hardly have imagined that Randstad would have acquired an international position by now. Since then, the company has established a presence in 39 different countries. What started out as a temporary employment agency has expanded into recruitment and human resources management to become a leader in its field.

The company is also a forerunner in equal opportunities, with 50% women in senior management positions, rising to 65% in the Benelux alone. The latter is just one of many figures illustrating the good management of its equal opportunities policy. Our interlocutor Christelle Mertz, Facilities Coordinator, describes it with a smile as "a great place to work". Yet Randstad, in collaboration with Actiris and others, is committed to supporting its unequal population, especially people who have dropped out of the labour market.

These facts are translated into Randstad's global vision. Indeed, Randstad does not expect its employees to fit into a pigeonhole, but seeks to integrate them into a working environment thanks to the richness of their differences, be it skills, culture, language or gender. The ultimate goal? The fulfilment and development of the individual, which the company promotes in particular through training. The importance of the human side is also reflected in the name given to temporary workers, who have become "talents" in the company's terminology. The strength of this HR specialist lies in his ability to match clients' requirements with their talents, thanks to his expertise. Combine this with a strong commitment to society through humanitarian projects and you have the perfect recipe for the world's fairest and most specialised recruitment company, a title the organisation is proud of.

Since climate action is also part of its sustainability objectives, Randstad started looking for a new drinking water partner. Driven by the new generation, which is very sensitive to climate protection, it turned to AQUALEX after a tender, which appealed primarily because of its dynamic image.

Unlike the old solutions of bottled fountains or bottled water, which posed a real waste and hygiene problem, AQUALEX stood out for its ecological formula and its response to the mobility and flexibility challenges in today's society. It also counters environmental concerns about waste, and the results did not take long to show at Randstad. It now saves 65% annually on PMD waste, equivalent to 600,000 0.5-litre plastic bottles. Not to mention the budget savings and online access to service reports that enable optimal management of facilities. Besides the technical and practical benefits, the design of the fountains, which fit perfectly into the office environment, completely convinced Randstad. Following a successful trial in 2019, the fountains have quietly found their way into more than 90 offices, much to the delight of employees.
